Despite hailing from San Diego, Friends of Ghosts sounded like they were the stuff of thoroughly British stock.  Frontman D. Andrew Marries (aka Donnie Darq) went a long way in playing up the trio's Anglophile leanings by floating a convincing Brit accent atop Friend's noir, but often cheeky canvas.  On Realm of the Senses it's often hard to discern where the irony ends and where the gravity begins.  Much like the coterie of inspirational antecedents they were wont to draw from - The Birthday Party, Syd Barrett and Bauhaus, there's often a lack of immediacy to this record.  So much  so there's barely a hook in sight to grab onto until you reach Realm's halfway mark on "Eleven Boy" - but when it peaks you'll be duly rewarded.  Textures and idiosyncrasies were the Friend's ostensible raison d'etre, wherein these kids hopscotched from the percussive "Windows" to the metallic stomp of "Juju Digby Juju," and onto "Ciao Manhattan," which escalates from a chilled out piano ballad to something entirely more rocking.  Virtually every realm that inhabits Realm bares a demeanor of it's own making, the most persuasive being the concluding "WMT" a melodic and measured three minute bliss-take that suggests what the Psychedelic Furs might have conjured up around the same era had they not gotten so irreparably tangled up in pink.

Hugh Roy? Man, ol' U Roy sure paid the price for having an oddball name. If the mislabeled records crediting him as Hugh Roy weren't enough, the original pressings of his Version Galore LP were credited to I Roy, a completely different DJ who probably had his own brand recognition problems.

Here we are, regardless of of the mislabeling. This one is for the reggae fiends that have gone past Marley, past Island Records, past all of the spit shined international publicity pushed artists. The fiends that dig the stuff that stayed in Jamaica. U Roy toasting over the Heptones, recorded at Joe Gibbs. It doesn't get more Jamaican than that. There might be only four of you going "hell yeah!". I don't care if it's three of you, tonight it's all about you. Well, two songs anyway.

Lionel Kazan, beau gosse qui a du miser sur son physique pour essayer de faire carrière, choisira de mettre la flèche en nous présentant son single de 1989 "Je voulais te dire que c'est fini", dont acte.

Son patronyme est à ne pas confondre avec le gars de la Tv/Radio Lionel Cassen et que, de son vrai nom, Fernand Ouate (c'est la quoi ???) a réalisé quelques titres, à découvrir sur ce chanel ICI.

Jo se met en 4 pour vous !

Vous n’en rêviez pas, et bien je l’ai fait quand même ! Voici la crème du chantonne, accompagnée du meilleur du sifflonne, enfin compilée et en exclusivité mondiale ! J’ai mis les p'tits plats dans l'écran, avec 13 volumes (c'est pas d'la chance ça ?), pleins comme des zeufs, assemblés avec amour par messouin (= Jo). Notez aussi l’élégance da la pochette (Pour ceusses qui ne l’auraient pas reconnu il s’agit de la merveilleuse Elizabeth Montgomery. Ma sorcière préférée :)

Je n'ajouterai rien, tout est dans le titre. Rendez-vous au tas de sable chaque semaine pour environ 80mn (x 13) de bonheur. Là où Sylvie Vartan et Carlos se contentaient de 2mn35. Les rapaces !

PS 1 : Pourquoi sifflonne ? Parce sifflotte, à l’oreille, c’est moche… Affreux comme six draches ou six saucées.
